The Mustang Family Introduces its Newest Member: The All-Electric Mach-E

Fifty-five years ago, the first Ford Mustang roared to life. Making its debut in 1964, the Mustang became an American icon that represents freedom, going fast, and an untamed spirit. Now Ford is looking to grow the Mustang family with an all-electric SUV: The Mach-E.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

The Mustang Mach-E made its world-wide debut Sunday, November 17, 2019, and is expected to be available for sale by late 2020. Never short on options and customizations, the Ford Mustang Mach-E was truly designed with the customer’s needs in mind and will be available with a variety of options and trims.

The Mustang Mach-E will be available with a standard battery as well as an extended-range battery and can be selected in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Mach-E paired with the extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive option is expected to see 300 miles per full charge. If you’re looking for more power, however, then you may want to look at the all-wheel drive option. The all-wheel drive system that will be available with the Mach-E will be able to independently apply torque to the front and rear axles. This will add acceleration and improved handling over the rear-wheel drive model. This all-wheel drive system was tested in snowy and wet terrain to prove its up to the Ford tough name. The Mach-E is also the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team using Ford’s racing simulator in North Carolina.

Looking to go faster? The Mustang Mach-E will also be released in two performance versions: Mustang Mach-E GT and the GT Performance Edition. The Mustang Mach-E GT is hitting 0 to 60mph in under 4 seconds. The GT Performance Edition is faster yet hitting 0 to 60 mph in the mid 3 second range, comparable to the Porsche 911 GTS. Both performance models produce 459 horsepower with 612 lb.-ft of torque.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

The Mustang Mach-E delivers a lot more than lightning speed. Spacious enough to fit 5 adults and plenty of cargo space for all of your storage needs, the Mustang Mach-E is the best of both worlds. The Mach-E offers 29 cubic feet of space with the rear seats in place, or you can fold them down to receive a total of 59.6 cubic feet of storage. Looking for a little more? Ford thought so too. The Mach-E provides a drainable front trunk storage unit with 4.8 cubic feet of space. With the drainable unit, this feature is ideal for pouring in some ice and keeping your drinks cold whether the family’s heading to the beach, or you’re at a pre-game tailgating event.

The Mustang Mach-E also offers the next generation of technology advancements and features. Debuting in the Mustang Mach-E, drivers will experience Phone As Key technology. Utilizing Bluetooth, the vehicle will communicate with the driver’s smartphone as they approach the vehicle, allowing the vehicle to unlock and start, all without even taking your phone out of your pocket or using a key. In case your phone battery is dead, Ford has created a back-up code that can be entered in the vehicle’s center screen to start and drive the vehicle.

Other features Ford drivers will enjoy include the next generation of SYNC technology and the panoramic-fixed glass roof. This new infotainment center uses predictive technology to adapt to the driver’s patterns. SYNC will begin to recommend tasks that it notices the driver does regularly, such as calling home after work. The Mustang Mach-E also has available a panoramic fixed-glass roof that is prepared with infrared protection to help insulate the interior of the vehicle from the outside elements. This infrared layer also helps block UV rays from entering the vehicle.
